Smart FTP and PWP@att.net
Note: There have been several reports from members who are having problems using SmartFTP to transfer files to the AT&T Worldnet service using Windows 98SE and Windows ME. If you have difficulties and would like to report problems or pursue a solution, please contact SmartFTP support at http://www.smartftp.com.
This page provides instructions for using Smart FTP to publish your Web pages from your hard drive to the AT&T Worldnet Personal Web Page servers using a secure connection. A secure connection is needed to access the PWP servers from another ISP, but should also work with an AT&T Worldnet connection. Read the information in our PWP FAQ for additional information.
Note: You will need to find your AT&T Worldnet Service account information.
- Launch SmartFTP.
- If the Settings window doesn't pop up when you first open the program, from the Tools menu, choose Settings.
- select the General option.
- In the E-Mail Address field, enter your e-mail address.
- Under the Connection heading, select SSL.
- Select the Use Client Cert option.
- Click the Create Cert button.
- Set an Expiration date (we used the default as shown below) and click the Next button.
- Enter Your Name and e-mail address. Click the Next button.
- Select the Set up SmartFTP to use the generated certificate option and click the Finish button.
- Click the OK button on the Settings window to close it.
- From the FTP menu, choose Local Browser.
- Enter the following information in the main window:
- Address: Choose FTP over SSL(Explicit) and enter upload.att.net
- Login: Your e-mail ID (the part before the @ sign)
- Password: Your e-mail password
- Port: 21
- Select the location of your files for this email ID in the Local Browser window.
- Click the Connect button. After you're connected, you'll see the files on the PWP servers.
- Drag the files that you want to upload from your Local Browser and drop them into your folder at upload.att.net. Check the Help file for additional uploading methods.
- If you have more than one e-mail ID on the AT&T Worldnet PWP servers, you should add each of them to your Favorites. When you're connected to an account, from the Favorites menu, choose Add to Favorites.
- With Favorites selected, click the Insert Folder button.
- Name your folder whatever you wish. We named ours Worldnet. Click the OK button to continue.
- Rename upload.att.net to your e-mail ID as shown below and click the OK button.
- Follow the procedures starting in step 8 above to connect to each of your accounts and add each of them to your Favorites. Then, the next time you open Smart FTP, you can choose which account you want to use by selecting your folder (Worldnet in this example) and then the email ID from the Favorites menu.
If you've followed the instructions exactly and are having problems uploading, try the troubleshooting steps in our PWP FAQ.
