Ad-aware

Note: Use of any anti-spyware software is always at your own risk! Although the basic use of the program is given in the steps below, it is always best to read through any documentation that is supplied with the program. Also, be very careful when marking items for deletion as deleting a required file can be harmful to your system stability.


To use Ad-aware:

  1. Download and install Ad-aware.
  2. Launch Ad-aware.
  3. Click the Check for updates now link.

  4. Click the Connect button.

  6. Leave the default settings as they are, and click the Next button to start the scan. It may take a while to complete.

  7. If no problems are found, click the Finish button and move on to step 13.

  8. You will be shown the results of the scan.

  9. Review each item by double-clicking on it. Click the Close button to return to the scanning results list.

  10. Ensure that there is a checkmark beside each item you wish to remove, and that there are no checkmarks beside any items you wish to keep.
  11. Once you have finished defining what to remove and keep, click the Quarantine button.
  12. Enter a name for the file; the current date is usually a good idea.

  13. Click the OK button.
  14. You will be asked you if wish to continue, click the OK button.

  15. Click the Next button.
  16. You will be asked if you wish to continue. Click the OK button and ad-aware will remove the unwanted files.
  17. You will be shown a status window.

  18. If you wish to have Ad-aware automatically scan your system, please click the Help button for information on setting up automation.
  19. Close the window.
