AOL and AT&T Worldnet Service

AT&T Worldnet Service provides value-added directories and search-engines that make it the best way to access the Internet -- including online service providers like America Online. Did you know that you can access AOL through a regular ISP? Well you can. AOL calls it the Bring Your Own Access Plan (BYOA).

If you have America Online 3.0 software installed and wish to access AOL through AT&T Worldnet Service and take advantage of the Bring Your Own Access Plan (BYOA) you may follow these steps:

  1. Log onto AT&T.
  2. Minimize AT&T and click on AOL from your start programs.
  3. When AOL comes up click on Setup.
  4. Click on Home.
  5. Click on Edit Location.
  6. Make sure that Network should be set to TCP/IP.
  7. Click on Save.
  8. Click on OK.

After the initial setup, all you have to do is log onto your AT&T Worldnet Service, minimize it, bring up AOL, put in your password and sign onto AOL. If you wish to upgrade to the latest AOL software to take advantage of advanced features, you may do so by going to the keyword upgrade while logged onto AOL or by downloading it from AOL.

If you have America Online 4.0 or 5.0 software installed and wish to access AOL through AT&T Worldnet Service and take advantage of the Bring Your Own Access Plan (BYOA) you may follow these steps:

  1. Connect to AT&T Worldnet Service.
  2. Launch AOL.
  3. On the AOL Sign On Screen, click Setup.
  4. On the AOL Set up Screen, select the Create a location for use with new access phone numbers or an ISP option and then click the Next button.

After the initial setup, all you have to do is log onto your AT&T Worldnet Service, and then launch and sign onto AOL.

If you wish to take advantage of the Bring Your Own Access discount, you will need to enter the keyword Billing once you are logged on to AOL. Choose Change Billing Method or Price Plan. Click on Update Pricing Plan and choose the BYOA option. Choose Display Plan and read about your billing. Please note that on the BYOA Pricing Plan if you do not access AOL through AT&T Worldnet Service you will incur an additional per hour surcharge which will be added to your AOL bill.
