Configuring Your PC for Multiple Users

If more than one user gets e-mail on the same computer, it's possible to configure the computer so each person has their own e-mail folder, desktop, etc. When you do this, each person would log on to the computer with their own Windows ID. It might be necessary to reinstall some programs to have them on each desktop. You can even have certain programs on some desktops and not others.

To configure Windows for multile users:

  1. From the Start menu, select Settings, then choose Control Panel.
  2. Double-click the Passwords icon. The following window will appear.
    password control panel
  3. Select the User Profiles tab.
  4. Select the Users can customize their preferences and desktop settings... option and click the OK button.
  5. Double click the Users icon. The following window appears.
    users control panel
  6. For each user that will be sharing the PC, click on New User and follow the instructions. For each user, you will need to specify a user name and a password. The user name and password identifies the user to the PC, not to AT&T Worldnet Service. If you don't want another user ID and password to remember, you can use your AT&T Worldnet e-mail ID and password, though this is not required.

Now, all that's left is configuring your e-mail client for your personal account. To do this, you must log on to Windows using your Windows ID and password.

If you are not already logged on using your account:

  1. From the Start menu, choose Shut Down.
  2. Select the Close all programs and log on as a different user? option, and click the Yes button.
  3. When the Welcome to Windows screen appears, enter your Windows ID and password, and click the OK button.

To set up e-mail using Outlook Express, follow the instructions below. For other e-mail applications, see E-Mail Clients for configuration information.

To use Outlook Express to access your AT&T Worldnet e-mail account, you will need to configure Outlook Express with your personal settings, including your e-mail ID and password.

  1. Double-click the Outlook Express icon on the Windows desktop. If you have not already set up Outlook Express, the following screen will appear, asking you to select a folder where your messages will be stored. Click the OK button.
    browse for folder screen
  2. After Outlook Express is open, follow these instructions on the page below to set up the new account.
