Windows XP DUN - Prepaid Calling Card
This page will illustrate how to use the XP DUN and a prepaid telephone card to access AT&T Worldnet Service.
Note: You will need to find your AT&T Worldnet Service account information.
To configure Windows XP DUN to use a pre-paid calling card:
- Make a copy of an existing DUN. Select My Computer from the Start menu, then select Control Panel. Click the Network Connections icon. Right-click the Worldnet DUN and choose Create copy. Then right-click the copy, and rename it prepaid telephone card or some other name that you will recognize.
- Double-click the connection to open it.
Note: If you don't see the Connection window as shown below, you'll have to change your settings to display the Connection prompt. For User name and Password, use your AT&T Worldnet assigned log-in name (example: 123456789@worldnet.att.net) and 16 character password. Do not use your e-mail name and e-mail password. You can choose to save the password, and enable it to be used only by you, or by anyone who uses the computer.
- Click the Properties button. On the General tab, type in the AT&T Worldnet local access number number you wish to use, and be sure to put a check mark next to Use dialing rules.
- Click OK to bring up the DUN window again, and then choose Dialing rules to show the Phone and Modem Options window.
- Choose the New option to bring up the New Location screen.
- Choose the Calling Card tab and select your calling card if it is shown. If it is not shown, choose New.
- Enter your prepaid card account number and PIN number.
- Click the Long Distance tab. Enter the 800 number you dial and follow the calling card dialing steps for your card. In the example, the DUN will call the prepaid card number, then wait 4 seconds, after that it will dial 1, it will input your prepaid card number, and wait again for 4 seconds, dial 1 and wait an additional 6 seconds, and finally dial the area code and number for your chosen AT&T Worldnet access number.
- Your particular calling card may have different prompts so you might want to dial the access number and write down the steps for your card. Note the seconds that pass before the voice message ends and you are supposed to enter your PIN or a 1. Under the Wait for Prompt setting, it seemed to work better to use Wait for a specific length of time rather than Wait for a voice message to complete with my card.
