Windows NT 4.0 and AT&T Worldnet Service
The instructions below show how to configure Windows NT 4.0 Workstation software to connect to the AT&T Worldnet Service using CHAP authentication.
Note: You will need to find your AT&T Worldnet Service account information.
To configure Windows NT 4 RAS:
- In the Control Panel folder, open the Modem icon and make sure that you have selected your modem and set the correct options.
- Open the Control Panel window and click the Network icon
- Click the Services tab.
Note: you may or may not see the Remote Access Service line above depending on whether your PC has been set up before.

- If you do not see the line click the Add button, otherwise skip the next step.
Now click the OK button. You will now be asked for the Windows NT installation CD and the system will copy over some files.

- You will now be asked to select your modem.
If you have previously configured your modem (step 1), then you should see the modem listed as shown above. If so, click the OK button. If a modem does not show up then you should click Install modem to now select the modem on your computer (follow the wizard steps to select your modem type). For the purposes of these instructions, it is assumed that you know how to set up the modem.

- The screen below shows that you have selected the RAS modem that you will be using. Click the Configure button.

- Select the Dial out only option. Click the OK button.

- You will now be shown the screen below. Click the Network option.

- Select TCP/IP option and click the OK button.
- You will now be shown the screen below. Click the Continue button.

- RAS is now configured on your PC.
- You now need to set up your Dial up Network properties for dialing into AT&T Worldnet Service.
- Launch the My Computer icon and then open the Dial up Networking icon.
- Click the New button. Now type in any name you want for this entry. Click the Next button.
- In the screen shown below, select the options shown below. Click the Next button.
- Enter the phone number and area code (if it applies) of your access number. You can also use alternate numbers if you have multiple access numbers. Click the Next button.

- Click the Finish button below.
- At this point you have now set up an entry for AT&T Worldnet Service.
- Click the More button and then select the Edit Modem and entry properties entry.
- Click the Configure button to see the screen below. Select the options shown above and click the OK button to go back to the previous screen.

- Then select the Server tab and choose the options show below.
- Click the TCP/IP Settings button and select the options shown below.
The IP address should be set to Server assigned IP address, while the DNS server address should be set to Server assigned name server addresses.
Alternatively, you could use Specify name server addresses with the entries shown below for the DNS server address. Having them provided automatically is the preferred method.- Primary and Secondary DNS:
- 204.127.129.4 and 204.127.160.4
or - 204.127.160.3 and 204.127.129.3
- 204.127.129.4 and 204.127.160.4
- Primary and Secondary DNS:
- Select the Script tab and select the options shown below.
Click the OK button to go back to the screen shown in step 21.

- Click the Security tab and select the options shown below.
Note: A few folks have had a problem logging in using the above configuration. If you do, you might want to select the Accept only encrypted authentication option above.

- Click the X.25 tab and select the options shown below.
Click on the OK button. You are now done setting up the RAS configuration.

- You will now see the screen shown below.
Click the Dial button to begin the connection to AT&T Worldnet Service.

- Enter your AT&T Worldnet Service Username and Password. If you would like to save the password for the next session, make sure that the Save Password option is selected.
Note: The Username will be filled in by NT. But that Username will be the Username that you logged into NT with. You must make sure you delete that entry and cut and paste your Username and/or Password from your account.txt file.
- You will now need to enter your 9 character user name (as shown above) and your 16 character password that you have for the AT&T Worldnet service (you probably got this from a customer care representative or when you initially registered using the AT&T Worldnet Service software.
- Click the OK button.
At this point your modem should begin dialing into the AT&T Worldnet Service access modem and you should be connected to the AT&T Worldnet Service.
