Windows 98 DUN - Pre-Paid Calling Card

This page outlines the procedures necessary to configure your Windows 98 DUN to use a pre-paid calling card to connect to AT&T Worldnet Service.
Note: This procedure is not to be used if you're using the AT&T Worldnet Connection Manager.

To configure Windows 98 DUN to use a pre-paid calling card:

  1. The first step is to take a known good Dial-Up Networking connection and make a backup copy of it just in case you have problems.
  2. In Dial-Up Networking, select the DUN connection you wish to use. Right-click the DUN connection and select Properties.
  3. Enter the area code and phone number to call, and then click the OK button.

  4. The next step is to set up DUN to display the connection prompt. Select Settings from the Connection menu. Check the box to Prompt for information before dialing and then click the OK button.

  5. Double-click the DUN connection to open it. You should then see the Connect To prompt. Click the Dial Properties button.

  6. Check For long distance calls, use this calling card. Select the Calling Card you wish to use and click the Calling Card button. Note: If the calling card you use isn't listed, you can create it by choosing anything on the list and then clicking on the New button in the window shown in Step 7. After you create it, continue with Step 8.

  8. Set up the calling sequence as the Calling Card describes. You might have to tweak on a value or two to get it working correctly. You should probably have your modem's sound on and the volume turned up so you can hear the progress of the connection.

  9. Click the OK button to close the Calling Card window. You should then be back to the Dialing Properties window. Click Apply and then click the OK button.
  10. Click the Connect button. Once you are sure all is working you can unselect the Dial-Up Networking prompts. Select Settings from the Connection menu. Remove the check mark from the box to Prompt for information before dialing and then click the OK button.
