Trumpet 3.0 and AT&T Worldnet Service

These instructions will set up Trumpet as a dialer only, which you start and use to log into AT&T Worldnet Service. After connecting to the AT&T Worldnet Service, minimize Trumpet and start whatever third party application you want to use (Eudora, Netscape, mIRC, FTP, etc.)

Note: Trumpet 3.0D has a bug that causes "The HANGUP when the application is through" option not to work.

Note: You will need to find your AT&T Worldnet Service account information.

To configure Trumpet 3.0:

  1. Create a new directory for Trumpet 3.0 and expand the downloaded file into it.
  2. Create an icon linked to c:\new-directory-name\tcpman.exe. The working directory is the same as the new directory name. If you are a registered user, you should copy and paste your trumpet registration username and registration password from your old trumpwsk.ini file into the new trumpwsk.ini file in the new directory. You need to register or you'll be running a 30 day evaluation version.
  3. Launch this new icon to start Trumpet 3.0. You'll be given some registration screens, if you haven't entered your previous data.
  4. Choose Setup from the File menu. This is the configuration I found to work:
    1. IP address = Leave Blank
    2. DNS server(s) = 204.127.129.4 (space) 204.127.160.4
    3. Domain Server = worldnet.att.net
    4. Check @ PPP
    5. MTU = 552
    6. TCPMSS = 512
    7. TCP RWIN = 2048
    8. TCP RTO MAX = 60
    9. Demand Load time-out = 5
  5. Click Dialer Settings and enter the following:
    1. Comm Port (Whatever port your modem uses)
    2. Baud Rate (Whatever you can stand. I use 38400)
    3. X at Hardware Handshaking
    4. Check @ NONE for online status detection
    5. Check @ Login/logout on load/unload.
    6. Check @ Standard SLIP/PPP settings
    7. Inactivity time-out set to 0 minutes
    8. All other settings are not checked.
  6. Click the OK button for these dialer settings, then click OK again for the Setup box.
  7. Select PPP Options from the File menu.
    1. X @ Use Challenger Handshake Auth. Prot. (CHAP)
    2. Username is your AT&T Worldnet Service username which starts with several numbers, followed by @worldnet.att.net, Don't forget to include the @worldnet.att.net as part of the user name.
    3. Password is your AT&T Worldnet Service User Password AT&T assigned to you when you first signed up. This is a 16 character string that is encrypted. Copy it exactly. Do not use your e-mail password
  8. Chose OK for PPP Options
  9. On the Dialer menu, select Profile
Leave Username and password blank here, but enter the AT&T phone number you use to access AT&T Worldnet Service.
  10. Click the Modem Setting button and enter the modem initialization string for your modem. Don't use the first AT, Trumpet inserts that automatically. Other spaces should be okay as is. For example:
    1. X @ Use reset string
    2. Reset string = z
    3. Dial string = dt
    4. Hang-up string = h
  11. Click the OK button and then choose Server settings. Remove any information in the spaces in this box. All should be blank.
  12. Close all the boxes by choosing OK and then exit Trumpet.
  13. Restart Trumpet, and it should dial your AT&T Worldnet Service POP, log you in, and return a "Script Completed" message. This should be followed by the server sending you "My IP address is xxxxxx". You can watch the action in Trumpet's screen and after you see the returned IP address, minimize Trumpet and open whatever application you want to use.

Thanks to Chuck Sprick for these instructions.
