BeOS and AT&T Worldnet Service

The following are instructions are for configuring the BeOS Dialup Networking to connect to AT&T Worldnet Service. Note: these instructions are for BeOS 4.5. Earlier versions are incompatible with AT&T Worldnet Service.

Note: You will need to find your AT&T Worldnet Service account information.


To configure the BeOS dialer:

  1. From the Programs menu, select Preferences folder, and choose Dialup Networking. The Dialup Networking dialog box will open.

  2. From the Connect To drop-down box, choose New...

  3. Enter a name for the connection in the box, such as AT&T Worldnet Service.

  4. Now enter the following information in the spaces provided:
    • Phone Number: Your local access number
    • Username: Your nine-digit numerical login name which is followed by "@worldnet.att.net"
    • Password: Your login password....NOT your e-mail or security word.

  5. Click the Settings button.
  6. Enter the DNS numbers in the spots provided:
    • Primary DNS: 204.127.129.4 or 204.127.160.3
    • Secondary DNS: 204.127.160.4 or 204.127.129.3
    • Alternatives: 12.102.244.4, 12.102.244.1, 12.102.244.2, 12.102.240.1, 12.102.240.2

  7. From the Server Type drop-down menu, choose Standard PPP.
    • From the Your modem is... drop-down menu, choose your type of modem.
    • From the Connect via drop-down menu, choose the location.
    • From the Speed drop-down menu, choose your speed.

  8. Click the Done button. You'll be presented with a box saying it needs to restart networking. Click the Restart button.

  9. Click the Connect button in the dialog box and wait for your connection to occur. When connected for the first time, you'll be asked if you want to save your DUN settings. Click the Yes button. From now on, to log onto AT&T Worldnet Service, just go to Dialup Networking, click the Connect button, and you're ready to go!
