Entourage X for Macintosh

Access to the AT&T Worldnet news servers from another ISP is now available. Read our News FAQ for additional information.

The instructions on this page will show you how to use Entourage on a Macintosh with OSX to access the AT&T Worldnet news server through another ISP. We also have instructions for access through an AT&T Worldnet connection.


To configure Entourage X for For High-speed Connections & Other ISPs:

  1. Launch Entourage.
  2. From the Tools menu and choose Accounts.
  3. On the News tab, click the New button.

  4. The Account Setup Assistant window will appear. Choose the e-mail account you wish to use. This is the name that will appear in the From: line of your post. It isn't necessary to type in an Organization name. Click the arrow to advance to the next screen.

  5. In this window, type in inetnews.worldnet.att.net and select the My news server requires me to log on option. Click the arrow to advance to the next screen.

  6. In this window, enter the following as shown below:
    • Account ID: Your e-mail ID (the part of your e-mail address in front of the @ symbol)
    • Password: Your e-mail password
    • Save password in my Mac OS keychain: Check the box

  7. In this window, type in a name for your new account in the field next to Account name. Note that this name is for display purposes only. Click the Finish button.

  8. You will then see your news account in the Accounts window. In this example, it is WN inetnews.

  9. Highlight the News Account that you just created and click the Edit button. edit
  10. The Edit Account window will appear as illustrated below. Click the Advanced Receiving Options button.

  11. In the window that appears, select This news server requires a secure connection (SSL) option. The port number will automatically change to 563. Close the window by clicking in the small box in the upper left corner. You will be returned to the Edit Account window. Click the OK button near the bottom of the window.

  12. Close this window.

  13. Highlight the News Account you just created in the Mail Window (WN inetnews in this example).

  14. The window illustrated below will appear. Click the Receive button. recieve
  15. The newsgroups available will appear in the right pane of the main Mail Window.

  16. In the Display newsgroups containing field type in worldnet. display
  17. Highlight a group that interests you and click the Subscribe button. subscribe
  18. The group(s) that you choose will appear under the Worldnet News group in the bottom left pane in the Mail window. To view them, click the arrow in front of the News Group.

  19. In the future, when you wish to read the messages in a particular group, click the newsgroup and the messages will begin to download. The messages will be listed in the top right pane. When you click on a message, it will be displayed in the bottom pane.
