3.2 - For High-speed Connections & Other ISPs
Access to the AT&T Worldnet news servers from another ISP is now available. Read our News FAQ for additional information.
This document contains configuration instructions for using Agent 3.2 and higher to access the AT&T Worldnet Service news and e-mail servers through another ISP. We also have instructions for accessing through an AT&T Worldnet connection.
Agent's versions 3.2 and higher now have native support for the required SSL authentication into the news servers.
Note: You will need to find your AT&T Worldnet Service account information.
To configure Agent for For High-speed Connections & Other ISPs:
- From the Tools menu, choose Servers
and Accounts.

- Highlight News Servers and click the New button
at the bottom left and choose News Server.

- Enter the following information:
- News Server: inetnews.worldnet.att.net
- Add Checkmark to: "The server requires a secure connection (SSL)"
- Add a radio button selection to: "Login with a simple username and password"
- Your login information: Your e-mail ID (the part of your email address to the LEFT of the @ sign) and your password.
- Click Next.

- Server Priority: This screen's default settings
should be fine for most users. Click Next.

- Review and click Finish.

- If you would like Agent to retrieve your e-mail, highlight Inbound
Email Server and click the NEW button.
Choose Email Account and Servers.
- Add a radio button selection to: Both and email account and an outbound email server (or choose outbound for just sending and skip to step 8).
- Click Next.

- Enter ipostoffice.worldnet.att.net for Mail
Server and select the following options:
- The server requires a secure connection (SSL)
- Simple username and password and enter your emaill ID (the part to the left of the @ sign) and your password
- Click Next.

- Enter imailhost.worldnet.att.net for mail server and
select the following options:
- The server requires a secure connection (SSL)
- Login with a simple username and password
- Use the username and password for the inbound email account (or enter your ID/password)
- Click Next.

- Create a new Persona. Select Yes, and
click Next.

Personas control how you are identified when you send a message. You can create just one for everything or setup multiple personas for different types of messages. (Tools>Options>Posting Messages) This example creates one persona for all messages and uses the default Worldnet SMTP server for sending.


- Choose inbound email folder. The default is inbox. Click Next.

- Enable email account. Click Next.

- Review and click Finish.

- Verify the port assignments. One by one highlight each of the servers and click Advanced Settings.
- For each server instance, add a checkmark to: Use a non-standard port and click OK.




Download and Read Newsgroups
- From the Tools menu, choose Newsgroup
Directory .
This will retrieve the current list of newsgroups available through AT&T Worldnet. Due to the amount of groups, it may take some time for this task to complete.

- Use the find feature to locate the groups that you are looking for. To use the find:
- As an example: type Worldnet, click Begin Search.
- Highlight the groups you wish to subscribe to (ctrl+click selects multiple items).
- Click Add newsgroups to desk to subscribe.
- Click Close.

- From the Online menu, choose Get
New Headers in Current Desk.
This will get the message headers for you. Double-click on a message
header to download and display it for you.
