Outlook 98 and AT&T Worldnet Service

Note: These instructions are only for setting up Outlook 98 or Outlook 97 with the Mail Enhancement Patch.

If you have Outlook 97 but don't have the patch, either download it or look at the normal setup for Outlook 97.

If you are using Outlook 98, the one that you should use depends on which of the following items you have on the Outlook menu. If you have Services in the Tools menu, use the instructions below. If you have Accounts in the Tools menu, use the Outlook Express 4 instructions instead.

Note: You will need to find your AT&T Worldnet Service account information.


To configure Microsoft Outlook 98 for e-mail:

  1. Launch Microsoft Outlook.
  2. From the Tools menu, and choose Services.
  3. Click the Add button and choose Internet E-mail. The following box will appear:

  4. Enter the following information:
    • Mail Account: Enter AT&T Worldnet Service.
    • Name: Enter your name.
    • Organization: You can leave this blank, or enter the name your company/organization.
    • E-mail Address: Enter your e-mail address.
  5. Click the Servers tab.

  6. Fill in the boxes as follows:
    • Outgoing Mail Server: mailhost.worldnet.att.net
    • Incoming Mail Server: postoffice.worldnet.att.net
    • Account Name: The part of the e-mail address before the @
    • Password: Your e-mail password...not the long one AT&T gave you, but the one you chose.
  7. Click the OK button.
  8. Close Outlook and then relaunch it.
  9. From the Tools menu, choose Options.
  10. Select the E-mail tab.

  11. Make sure the box next to AT&T Worldnet Service is checked and click the OK button Then you're done!
  12. To send and receive e-mail; from the Tools menu and choose either Check for New Mail or Check for New Mail on... or just hit the F5 key on your keyboard. If you have authentication problems, try entering your e-mail ID in lowercase.
