Outlook 97 and AT&T Worldnet Service
Note: The instructions below are only for setting up Outlook 97 without the Mail Enhancement Patch. If you have the patch, look at the Outlook 98 setup. These instructions assume you have Internet Mail installed on your computer.
Note: You will need to find your AT&T Worldnet Service account information.
To configure Microsoft Outlook for e-mail:
- Launch Microsoft Outlook.
- From the Tools menu, choose Services.
- You may have less or more options listed in this window, depending on any other connections you have defined. Select Internet Mail and click the Properties button. If you do not have Internet Mail, go to the Exchange setup in WURD and start there.
- Fill in these fields as follows:
- Full Name: Enter your name as you want it to be seen by others.
- E-mail Address: Enter your complete E-mail address as shown.
- Internet Mail Server: postoffice.worldnet.att.net
- Account Name: Enter your e-mail ID (everything before the @ in your e-mail address)
- Password: Enter your e-mail password

- Click the Advanced Options button.
- Enter the SMTP server name: mailhost.worldnet.att.net
- Click the OK button, and then click the Message Format button. Uncheck the Use MIME for Sending Messages option unless you are sending to recipients that want MIME encoded messages.
- Select the Connect Using the Network option on the Connection tab, click on Schedule.
- Set the interval for checking mail while online.
- Click the OK button until you get back to the Outlook window. Outlook should try to get mail if you are online. If you are, and it checks and connects successfully, you are done. If you have authentication problems, try entering your e-mail ID in lowercase.
