Outlook 2000

Note: You will need to find your AT&T Worldnet Service account information.


To configure Microsoft Outlook 2000:

  1. Launch Microsoft Outlook.
  2. From the Tools menu, choose Accounts.

  3. You will see the following window. If you already have an e-mail account configured, it will also show in this window.

  4. Click the Add button, and select Mail to open the Internet Connection Wizard.

  5. Fill in your name. This is the name that will appear in the From: line of your e-mail. You can use your real name or, if you prefer, you can place an alias in this space. Click the Next button.

  6. Type your e-mail address in the E-mail address field. Click the Next button.

  7. Place the following information in the next window:
    • Select POP3 for the incoming mail server type.
    • Incoming mail (POP3) server: postoffice.worldnet.att.net
    • Outgoing mail (SMTP) server: mailhost.worldnet.att.net

  8. Click on Next to continue.
  9. Type your e-mail ID and password in the boxes below. Your e-mail ID is the part of your e-mail address that is to the left of the @. The password is the e-mail password that you chose. If you don't want to type your password every time you check your e-mail, check the Remember password box. Click the Next button.

  10. Select Connect using my phone line as the connect method and click the Next button.

  11. Select Use an existing dial-up connection and then select your AT&T Worldnet connection. Click the Next button.

To view or change existing e-mail accounts:

  1. Launch Microsoft Outlook.
  2. From the Tools menu, choose Accounts.

  3. Highlight the account and click the Properties button.

  4. Review the following tabs:
    • General tab
      This tab contains the basic information for your e-mail account.
      • Mail Account: You can put whatever you wish in this field. If you have more than one e-mail account, you can put a friendly name here. It makes it easier to identify each individual account.
      • Name: Put the name that you want people to see on your e-mail in this box. We've used Your Name in the example below.
      • Organization: You can leave this blank if you wish.
      • E-mail address: Place your entire e-mail address in this field. We used emailid@worldnet.att.net for this example. Replace this with your own e-mail address.
      • Reply address: You can normally leave this blank. However, if you want people to reply to an address other than the one shown in the E-mail address box, put that e-mail address here.
      • Select the Include this Account when Recieving Mail or Synchronizing option if you want this account included every time you check for e-mail.

      Servers tab This tab contains the information that you need to connect to the AT&T Worldnet e-mail servers.
      • Incoming mail server type: POP3
      • Incoming mail (POP3): postoffice.worldnet.att.net
      • Outgoing mail (SMTP): mailhost.worldnet.att.net
      • Account name: Put your e-mail ID here. The e-mail ID is the part to the left of the @ in your e-mail address.
      • Password: Put your e-mail password in this field.
      • Select the Remember password option if you don't want to have to type in your password whenever you check your e-mail.
      • Leave the rest of the boxes unchecked.

      Select the Connect using my phone line option and select your AT&T Worldnet DUN for the Modem.

      Leave the Server Port Numbers on the Advanced tab as shown below. Set the rest according to your personal preference.
      • Outgoing server (SMTP): 25
      • Incoming server (POP3): 110

  5. When you're finished setting your options, click Apply to save your settings and then OK to close the window.
