Filtering Junk E-Mail with Outlook Express 4
Most junk e-mail (aka spam) is sent with your e-mail address in the BCC field, so you'll never see it. We've found a method that works rather well dealing with e-mail that isn't directly sent to you. Our method involves filtering any e-mail that is addressed to you in the To or CC fields into a folder, and leave everything else in the Inbox so you can check it out later.
To filter junk e-mail:
- Launch Outlook Express.
- From the File menu, select Folder, and choose New Folder...

- Enter a name for your new folder.

- Choose the OK button.
- From the tools menu, choose Inbox Assistant.
- Click the Add button in the Inbox Assistant window.
- Type your e-mail ID (the part to the left of the @ symbol) into the to box as shown below. Select the Sent to Me folder by clicking on the Folder button, and finding your newly created folder.
- After you hit OK, you will see the following. Click the Add button to add the filter for the CC field.
- Type your e-mail ID (the part to the left of the @ symbol) into the CC box as shown below. Select the Sent to Me folder by clicking on the Folder button, and finding your newly created folder.
- After you click the OK button, you will see the following.
If you use the filters shown above, some e-mail from mailing lists, etc will still be kept in your inbox. You could add a filter for all e-mail that you want to see and filter that into your new folder as well.
