Filtering E-mail with Netscape 4.x
When you have several family members in your household, each with their own e-mail address, it's nice for each person to have their own place for their e-mail. If you want to check all of the e-mail at the same time, it is possible to filter each person's e-mail into their own folder.
The procedure below will show you how to do that. This procedure assumes that the e-mail address to be filtered is FamilyMember@att.net and you will need to replace this with the e-mail addresses of your friends or family members when you set up your filters. For example, for Uncle Bob you'll create a folder called Uncle Bob, and use his e-mail address.
To filter e-mail:
- Launch Netscape Messenger.
- From the File menu, choose New Folder
. - In the Name field, enter a name for your folder. In this example we are using Family Member, you can use anything that is appropriate.

- Click the OK button.
- From the Edit menu, choose Message Filters.
- Click the New button
- Define your filter:
- In the Filter Name field enter a name for your filter that matches the folder you created. In our case the name will be Family Member.
- Select the to and contains options, and then enter the e-mail address you wish to filter, in our case it is FamilyMember@att.net.
- Select the Move to folder option and your new folder.
- You can also put information in the Description box, but that is optional.
- After you click OK button.
- Use the up and down arrows to show the order the filters will be applied.
- Now, send a test message to test your filters. It's as easy as that.
