Viewing Headers in MS Outlook AT&T Worldnet or Internet Mail

This page has instructions on viewing headers in Microsoft's Outlook AT&T Worldnet or Internet Mail. The screenshots were taken using Outlook AT&T Worldnet, but they should look similar using Internet Mail. We divided the instructions into the following sections:

To view headers:

  1. There are at least two ways to access the message headers. Either open the message and Select Properties beneath the File menu
    - or -
Right-click the message header and select Properties as shown below.
    properties
  2. Click the Details tab to view the full header.

To paste header information into a message:

  1. To open a message to be forwarded, either highlight the message and click the Forward button
    - or -
Right-click the message header and select Forward as shown below. forward
  2. Right-click the body of the message above the original message and click on Paste. This will paste the headers into the message.
    paste
  3. Forward the message to the appropriate domain. You'll find additional information on fighting SPAM on our Fighting Junk E-mail (aka SPAM) page.

Now that we've gone through that entire procedure, there is a quick way to do it for experienced users. It works in Outlook Express 5, and might in the others too.

  1. Highlight the message, and press CNTRL F3 to open the Message Source window.
  2. Press CNTRL A to select the entire message.
  3. Press CNTRL C to copy the message.
  4. Open a new message window, place your cursor where you want the message to be pasted and hit CNTRL V.
  5. Put the forwarding address in the To field, fill in the Subject field and send it on its way.

The SPAM used in this example is NOT one that should necessarily be forwarded to abuse@att.net. If the SPAM was sent using an AT&T Worldnet account or refers to a page hosted by AT&T Worldnet Service, THEN, you should forward the message to abuse@att.net.

Note: If the SPAM got past the Brightmail E-mail Screener, you should take steps to alert the Brightmail system so that it can filter this kind of spam in the future. Instructions for doing this can be found here.
