Turn Off HTML Images & Objects in OS X Mail

Often spammers will send HTML e-mail that contains a link to a file (sometimes invisable) on their servers. When you open these e-mail meesages - even in preview mode - this will verify your e-mail address to the spammer. Because of this you may wish to turn off the display of images and other embedded objects in HTML messages.

To turn on or off HTML rendering:

  1. Launch Mail.
  2. From the Mail menu, choose Preferences.
  3. Click the Viewing icon.
  4. Deselect the Display images and embedded objects in HTML messages option.
