Norton AntiVirus E-Mail Protection
Norton AntiVirus 2000 and later allow you to scan e-mail messages as they are downloaded from the Internet. We've provided procedures to follow to enable this feature, and also outlined some troubleshooting procedures. Make sure that your e-mail application is closed before you begin.
Note: You can't use the Norton 2000/2001 e-mail virus check while downloading with a server that requires SSL. Please read this additional information.
To enable e-mail protection:
- Launch Norton AntiVirus.
- Make sure that Auto-Protect is enabled, then click the Options button.
- Select Email Protection from the menu on the left. Place a check mark in the Enable email protection box, select the account that you wish to protect and click the OK button.

- You will get a message that the account has been enabled for e-mail protection. This makes the following changes to your e-mail account properties:
- Incoming mail server: 127.0.0.1
- Account Name: emailid/postoffice.worldnet.att.net
View the Changed Information in Outlook AT&T Worldnet 5x or Outlook 2000.
- From the Tools menu, choose Accounts.
- Select the Mail tab.
- Highlight your account and click the Properties button. You'll find the changed information under the Servers tab as shown below.

Troubleshooting
You might occasionally get this error message:
The connection to the server has failed. Account: (account name) Mail Account', Server: '127.0.0.1', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E
Check the AT&T Worldnet Service Bulletins page to see if there's a reported problem with e-mail. If not, try the following:
- Close your e-mail application.
- Open Norton AntiVirus.
- Open the Email Protection window as shown above.
- Uncheck the account with the problem.
- Click the OK button. You should see notification that the account has had e-mail protection removed.
- Re-enable e-mail protection by following the procedures shown at the top of this page.
If this doesn't help, check your e-mail configuration and make sure that the settings are correct. See E-Mail Clients for configuration information for Outlook AT&T Worldnet 5x, Outlook 2000 and other e-mail programs.
