Download Eudora Pro and AT&T Worldnet Service

This document contains information necessary to set up Eudora Pro version 4.0 to access AT&T Worldnet Service mail. Neither AT&T Worldnet Service nor Qualcomm have sanctioned this document and neither are responsible for its contents. The screen shots are specific to Eudora Pro version 4.0 for Windows 95/98 or Windows NT 4.0 or greater. If you have Eudora Pro 3, you should check the information for Eudora Light. If you're interested in setting up multiple accounts in Eudora Pro, we have that information too!

Note: You will need to find your AT&T Worldnet Service account information.

To add an account:

  1. From the Tools menu, choose Options.
  2. Click the Getting Started icon. Enter the following:
    • Real Name: Your name as you want it to be seen when you send e-mail
    • Return address: Your e-mail address
    • Mail Server (Incoming): postoffice.worldnet.att.net
    • Login Name: Your e-mail address
    • SMTP Server (Outgoing): mailhost.worldnet.att.net
    • Allow authentication: checked
Be sure to use the longer version of your e-mail address in your Login Name, not the shorter att.net version. The shorter version will work in the Return address box though.

  16. Click the Advanced Networking icon. These are the settings I use for online operation. The dialer will still connect if you open Eudora while not connected, but it will not disconnect from AT&T Worldnet Service when you close the program. Use asynchronous Winsock calls settings are optional based on performance. I did not have these settings selected in Eudora Pro 3.05, but found Eudora Pro 4.0 worked better with them set.
Use the Automatically dial and hangup this connection: for offline operation. Make sure you have your AT&T Worldnet Service Dial Up Networking connection listed in the Entry: box and your e-mail username is listed. Check the Save password box and in the Domain box enter: worldnet.att.net. Then click on the OK button to connect. You will be prompted to enter your username and password the first time you attempt to connect.

  17. Click the MAPI icon. These are the default MAPI settings and should not be changed if you have another MAPI program such as Exchange or Outlook 97 in use. You will disable these two programs or get many error messages if you select Eudora as the MAPI server.
    mapi
  18. The Automation and Kerbos icons can be skipped.
  19. Click the Miscellaneous icon. These settings are optional based on your preferences. The Intercept Netscape mailto: URL's setting will bring up Eudora Pro only if you send a message by typing in the mailto: command from the Netsite: box in Communicator.

  20. The Auto Configure icon settings are not used with AT&T Worldnet Service.

That's about it. The settings not mentioned are to customize Eudora to work the way you want it to for you. You can experiment with them. If you change something and e-mail doesn't work, put it back and you should be OK.
