Filtering Junk E-Mail with Entourage 2004
Entourage 2004 has built-in Junk E-mail Protection. It is easy to activate and configure. Additionally, you can use Rules to block specific e-mail addresses.
Setting up Junk E-mail Protection
- Launch Entourage 2004.
- From the Tools menu, choose Junk E-mail Protection...
- Choose the level of protection you would like to use. For most people, the Low setting works well. If you find that too much spam is getting through, you can change this setting later. Make sure that the Delete messages from the Junk E-mail folder older than option is chosen.
Click the Safe Domains chicklet.
- Enter any domains that you consider safe. These will be ignored by the junk mail filter. In this example, I added
apple.com,att.com so that any e-mail coming from someone using these domains (ie. emailid@apple.com or emailid@att.com) will get through.
Click the OK button.
- You will now see a Junk E-mail folder listed. You should check this periodically to make sure things are not getting listed as junk by mistake.
Blocking Specific E-mail Addresses
- From the Tools menu, choose Rules.
- Click the New button.
- Do the following:
- In the Rule name: field, enter spam
- From the Execute drop-down menu, choose if any criteria are met.
- In the If section, starting from the left:
- From the first drop-down menu, choose From.
- From the second drop-down menu, choose Contains.
- In the text field, enter the e-mail address you wish to block.
- In the Then section, starting from the left:
- From the first drop-down menu, choose Change status.
- From the second drop-down menu, choose Junk E-mail.
- Make sure that the Enabled option is selected and then click the OK button.
- Close the window and Entourage is ready to go.
