Opera 7 and Newsgroups - For High-speed Connections & Other ISPs
Note: To use Opera to get your e-mail while connected to another Internet Service Provider, you will need to use Stunnel to create a secure connection.
To create a news account:
- Launch Opera.
- From the Mail menu, choose Manage accounts.
- Click the New button.
- Select the News option and click the Next button.
- Enter the your name, e-mail address. You may also enter an organization if you like. Click the Next button.
- Enter the following information:
- Incoming server: inetnews.worldnet.att.net
- Outgoing server: 127.0.0.1
- We recommend you finish all these steps first and take the tutorial later, so click the No button.
- Click the Cancel button you need to edit account the account first.
- From the Mail menu, choose Manage accounts. Select the account and click the Edit... button.
- Select the Servers tab. In the Incoming POP server section, enter the following:
- Server: inetnews.worldnet.att.net
- Port: 563
- Check the Use secure connection (TLS) option.
- Authentication: Plaintext
- User name: Enter your UserID (everything to the left of the @ in your e-mail address).
- Password: Your e-mail password.
- Server: 127.0.0.1
- Port: Do not modify this number.
- Authentication: Plaintext
- User name: Enter your UserID (everything to the left of the @ in your e-mail address).
- Password: Your e-mail password.
- Click the OK button.
- Click the Close button.
- Create a secure connection with Stunnel.
- Click the Hotlist button.
- From the Mail menu, choose Newsgroups...
- The newsgroups lists takes a while to load. Once it finishes loading you can subscribe to newsgroups by placing a check mark next to it. Click the OK button until you are back to the main Opera window.
- Click on the triangle next to news server name to expand the list.
- Double-click a newsgroup to open it.
- Double-click a message to open it.
- You are done!
