Download Opera 6 - For High-speed Connections & Other ISPs

Accessing the AT&T Worldnet servers from another ISP requires SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) security. Since Opera doesn't have native support for the SSL needed for the AT&T Worldnet e-mail servers, you will need to use a free helper program called Stunnel to get your e-mail. These instructions will detail how to get it and use it. When Stunnel is installed, continue with the instructions below.

You will only need Stunnel for incoming e-mail. Since Opera doesn't provide for SMTP authentication, you will have to send e-mail with your non-AT&T mail server. Opera does provide SSL capability for news servers, so you can use the AT&T Worldnet iNetNews server as shown below.

Note: You will need to find your AT&T Worldnet Service account information.

To configure Opera for For High-speed Connections & Other ISPs:

  1. Open the Opera preferences by selecting Preferences from the File menu.

    • Protocol: POP3
    • Port: 110
    • Username: Your e-mail ID (the part to the left of the @sign)
    • Password: Your e-mail password
Note: For most people, using 127.0.0.1 as the server names will work. However, in some cases using localhost is the only way to get it to work. Use whichever works for you. If neither of these work for you, try using your computer name. The location of this depends on your operating system, but is usually found somewhere in the Network information accessible through the Control Panel.
    Outgoing:
    • Server: Your other ISP's outgoing e-mail server
    • Protocol: SMTP
    • Port: 25
    outgoing mail
  6. Set the remaining tabs according to your personal preferences and click the OK button to get back to the Preferences window.
  7. Click on News in the left menu and enter the following information:
