To configure Navigator preferences:

  1. From the Edit menu, choose Preferences.
  2. Click on Navigator. Here you can specify the first page to display when Navigator starts (the home page) and also set and clear your history files. The history is a summary of your page visit information. When the number of days you select has passed, the color of a visited link will revert back to the color of an unvisited link. Clicking on the Clear History button will allow you to clear your history instantly. Clicking on the Clear Location Bar button will allow you to remove all the items on the location bar drop-down list.

  3. Click on Languages. Here you can set Navigator to view Web pages in different languages. If you wish to change from the default language of English, click Add. Highlight a language and its code. If you desire a language not listed, type in the language and its code in the Others field. A list of standard abbreviations for languages maybe found here.

  4. Click on Applications. Here you can set up helper applications to be used when you access or download certain types of files through Netscape. Navigator is configured to handle most file types; if it doesn't know which one to use, it will guide you through the selection process. For now, it is best to keep the default settings.

  5. Click on Smart Browsing. This feature helps you find what you want quickly on the Internet. Choose the settings illustrated. The Do Not Request field allows you to enter the domain names for which you do not want related information. Domain names are the part of a url that contains the name of an organization, business, or school.
