Download Netscape 4.7x and AT&T Worldnet Service

A visual guide to configuring Netscape 4.7x

This document contains instructions necessary to configure Netscape 4.7x to work with AT&T Worldnet Service. Neither AT&T Worldnet Service nor Netscape have sanctioned this document and neither are responsible for its contents.

Before Installing

You may download Netscape 4.7 here. In order to run Netscape Communicator, you will need to have a32-bit TCP/IP stack. Windows 9x, Windows NT, and Windows 2000 provide built-in 32-bit TCP/IP stacks.

If you are upgrading from a previous 4.x version of Netscape Communicator, when you install version 4.7, you can choose to either install in the default directory or in a directory that you specify. If you choose to install Netscape Communicator in the default directory, all of your bookmarks, connection settings, user profiles, mail, and preference settings are saved, and your previous version of Netscape Communicator is overwritten. Note: Windows 95 and Windows NT users - if you are using any version of Netscape Communicator prior to 4.7, you will get multiple uninstall entries in your Add/Remove Programs window.

If you install in a directory that you specify, you can continue to use your previous bookmarks, connection settings, profiles, mail, and preference settings without overwriting your previous version of Netscape Communicator. If you are upgrading from navigator 3.x or earlier, when you install Netscape Communicator, you will have the option of copying or transferring your bookmarks, connection settings, and preferences to the new version.

After Installing

There are two areas that you will need to configure in Netscape in order to use it with AT&T Worldnet Service effectively. They are:

  1. Creating a Profile
One of the best new features of Netscape 4.0x is the ability to have multiple user profiles. This means you can share Netscape with other members of your family who have their own user IDs, or even access multiple ISPs with it.
  2. Preferences
Preferences for each profile can be set by from the Edit menu, chooing Preferences. You will see settings for each of the following:
