Installing Netscape 4.5 for Macintosh Computers

The following is a step by step set of instructions on how to install Netscape 4.5for AT&T Worldnet Service on Macintosh Computers.

Requirements:

• A copy of the Netscape 4.5 Installer
• A PowerPC Macintosh Computer
• System 7.6.1*or better with 24**MB of RAM available
  *Can be used with any system 7.01 and later
  **16MB of free RAM recommended for Netscape alone
• At least 30MB of hard drive space

To install Netscape 4.5:

1. It is suggested that you shut down all running programs and turn off any automatic virus checking software for this installation.
2. Open the Netscape Installer Folder.
   
3. Click the Start Here icon. You will see the Netscape Splash screen.
4. Click Continue.The Netscape Terms and Conditions screen comes up next.
   
5. It is suggested you review this document and then click Accept if the terms are acceptable to you. That will bring you to the License agreement
   
6. Again, it is suggested you read this document as well and click OK.
   
7. It is suggested that you select Custom Install from teh drop-down menu.
   
8. If you already have a later copy of Internet Config on your hard drive, then deselect the install Internet Config checkbox. If you are running system 8.5 or 8.5.1 and using Apple's Remote Access software, then again, deselect the Internet Config installation as it is not required. If you already have a later copy of Stuffit Expander then deselect the install Stuffit Expander module as well. Netscape 4.5 comes with Internet Config 1.4 and Stuffit Expander .02
   
9. Browse and select the folder you wish to have the Netscape Communicator folder in. It is suggested that you do NOT overwrite any previous copies of Netscape Navigator or Communicator, but instead install into a new folder.
10. Click the Install button.The software will automatically install Netscape 4.5 onto your hard disk in the location you specified, as well as place other files and folders in the Preferences folder (System Folder/Preferences).
11. You will be prompted to restart your computer. Restart your computer using the button provided.
12. Allow the computer to restart. This completes the installation. You can now turn any virus checking software you may use back on. See Configuring Netscape 4.5 and The WURD Mac FAQ for additional information.
