Netscape 3.0x and AT&T Worldnet Service

This document contains configuration instructions for accessing the AT&T Worldnet e-mail servers through an AT&T Worldnet connection. We also have information about accessing your AT&T Worldnet e-mail through another ISP.

To configure Mail and News preferences:

  1. From the Options menu, choose Mail & News Preferences.
  2. On the Appearance tab you can modify how the Netscape news window looks and which mail client to use. Most of this is self explanatory. If you intend to use MS Exchange for your mail and news then click on that option. Click the Composition tab.

  3. The Composition tab defines how mail and news is transmitted, whether or not to send a copy to someone every time you post and where your e-mail folder is when using Netscape mail and news. You probably only need to worry about the quote original message option and the copy outgoing messages section. For outgoing messages, put in the path to your mail directory. If you don't specify anything here, your outgoing messages won't be saved. Make any changes you want and click the Servers tab.

  4. The Servers tab is where you tell Netscape what servers to use, where your mail directory is, your user id etc. You can pretty much copy what I have here, just change the POP3 user name to your e-mail id at AT&T Worldnet Service (not your encrypted AT&T Worldnet id) and change the Mail Directory to point to where you installed Netscape. Make your changes and then click the Identity tab.

  5. The Identity tab tells people about you when you send mail and post to news groups. Again, you can pretty much copy what I have. Just make sure you change the name, company and id info to yours (wouldn't want everyone posting messages with my name on it!). The signature file is what is appended to your e-mail and postings. Instead of re-typing "Joe Blow at xyz corporation. e-mail XXXXX URL XXXXX" or some such, you can create your signature file with any text editor and it will automatically be added to the end of any message you send. Make your changes, click the Organization tab.

  6. The Organization tab lets you determine whether or not you want to have to type your password every time you get mail, whether you want you mail and news threaded (grouped together by topic) and how they are sorted. Your choice! Make your changes and click the OK button. You have now completed setting up mail and news services.
