Mozilla - For High-speed Connections & Other ISPs
Accessing the AT&T Worldnet servers from another ISP requires SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) security. Mozilla supports SSL for both e-mail and newsgroups. We haven't been able to get it to work for outgoing e-mail yet, but we have a couple of workarounds that we discuss later.
Note: You will need to find your AT&T Worldnet Service account information.
Add an E-Mail account
- Launch Mozilla and select Mail and Newsgroups from the Windows menu.
- The Account Wizard should open. If the Mail and Newsgroups window opens, select Mail and Newsgroups Account settings from the Edit menu and click the Add Account button to open the Wizard.
Select Email account and click the Next button.
- Complete the fields as shown below and click the Next button.
- Your Name: Enter the name you would like to show in the From field
- Email Address: Enter your e-mail address
- Select POP, enter the following information and then click the Next button.
- Incoming Server: ipostoffice.worldnet.att.net
- Outgoing Server: Your other ISP's outgoing SMTP mail server
If you are not sure what the SMTP server name is, contact your non-AT&T Worldnet ISP.
Note: If you don't want to use your other ISP's outgoing e-mail server, you can use an application called Stunnel to provide the needed SSL support. You'll find configuration information on our Stunnel page.
- Enter your e-mail ID (the part of your e-mail address before the @ sign) and click the Next button.
- Enter a name for the account. We recommend using the e-mail address as shown below. Click the Next button.
- Verify that the information is correct and click the Finish button.
- You might or might not see this window. If you do, select your preference.
- Select Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings from the Inbox Edit menu.
- Select Server Settings on the left and change the following information:
- Use secure connection (SSL): Check
- Port: 995
- Test your settings by clicking on the Get new messages button.
- Enter your password. If you don't want to enter it every time you check your e-mail, check the Use Password Manager box. Click the OK button to retrieve your e-mail.
Add a News Account
- Select Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings from the Inbox Edit menu.
- Click the Add Account button.
- Select Newsgroup account and click the Next button to continue.
- Enter the following information:
- Your Name: The name you would like to appear in the From field of your outgoing messages.
- Email Address: Your e-mail address
- Click the Next button to continue.
- Enter the information as follows. Click the Next button to continue.
Newsgroup Server: inetnews.worldnet.att.net
- Enter a name for the account. We used inetnews.worldnet.att.net in this example. Click the Next button to continue.
- Verify that the information is correct and click the Finish button.
- Select Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings from the Inbox Edit menu.
- Select Server Settings on the left and make the following changes:
- Use secure connection (SSL): Check
- Port: 563
- Click the OK button to save your settings.
- Select the news server (inetnews.worldnet.att.net) on the left and click the Subscribe to newsgroups link.
- Enter your e-mail ID (the part to the left of the @ sign) and click the OK button.
- Enter your e-mail password and click the OK button to begin downloading newsgroups. Be patient, this might take quite awhile.
